His heroes are two great all rounders of this era, Kallis and Andrew Flintoff, and then it is no surprise then that he has the same credentials, that is, fast bowling middle order batsman. Wright has represented England Under-19s, won the Denis Compton medal three times and scored a century on his first-class debut for Sussex. He was also a key part of the Sussex team that won the C&G Trophy final in 2006. He one day hopes to emulate Flintoff and his selection to the England A side in February 2006 for the tour to West Indies raised his hopes for the same. He was the leading run-scorer in the Caribbean with 346 runs, enough to earn him a place in England's 15-man squad to South Africa.
