It was a bowlers day out at Chester-le-Street as the leather slingers of both the teams brought out economical performances with the ball and the batsmen failing in both the innings. Yorkshire wining the toss elected to field first, trying to take advantage of the early help in the pitch. Tim Bresnan was Yorkshire's best bowler, taking 3 for 26, to restrict Durham to a lowly total of 131. For Durham Mustard was the top scorer with rather a sedate 26, as the Durham innings never really got off the blocks. Only Warner struck more than two fours in the Durham innings. The Yorkshire batsmen must have fancied their chance at the total and what they were unprepared was the storm that was to be created by the younger Harmison, Ben Harmison. Defending only 131, Ben Harmison took 3 for 20, Gareth Breese chipped in with 2 for 22 while all the others supported these two bowlers with a miserly display to restrict Yorkshire to 90 for 9. Yorkshire made an awful start when Naved-ul-Hasan was run out for a duck and Gerard Brophy edged to Phil. The other opener, Andrew Gale, was also run out and the innings never recovered from a dreadful 3 for 4.
Nottinghamshire found two heroes in Ryan Sidebottom and Ali Brown as they registered a comfortable win over Leicestershire by nine wickets. Leicestershire won the toss and elected to bat first and the openers, Boyce and Allenby, gave them a sound start but as soon as they were dismissed no other batsmen were able to get on top of the bowling attack as Sidebottom and his cronies turned the screw on the opposition batsmen. Leicestershire were restricted to 123 for the loss of seven wickets in their stipulated 20 overs. The openers of Nottinghamshire came out their firing all their cylinders as they put on a demoralising 119 for the wicket. Off the two Brown was the aggressive as he dismissed the bowlers to all parts of the ground and though he got out victory was secured in the 15th over.

Surrey and Kent were locked in a heart stopping battle at the Oval where neither of the two teams gave each other an inch. Kent finally prevailed over Surrey by just one run and thus gained two valuable points. Kent had earlier set a target of 169 for Surrey and they fought tooth and nail to defend the target. Half-century from Martin van Jaarsveld and a composed 44 from the captain Robert Key steered them to a competitive total. Surrey was initially well placed for victory after Usman Afzaal, who top scored 62, led them to 99 for 2. However, a middle-order collapse during which they lost five wickets for 38 derailed their chase.

Vikram Solankis century helped Worcestershire rout Glamorgan by a massive 101 run margin. Electing to bat first Solanki was off to a flier as he whipped the hapless Glamorgan bowlers to all parts of the grounds, collecting 14 boundaries and a couple of huge hits over the boundary ropes. He was well supported by Davies and Moore, who too plundered runs at will at the expense of the stunned Glamorgan bowlers. Glamorgan needed a flying start from their top order but they didn't get as the wickets tumbled and the contest was over by the time they were reduced to 9 for 3.
